Inside My Classroom
This was a field trip to Kings Bay, Florida. Students learned of the importance of eel grass to the environment. They were also afforded the opportunity to catch a fish.
We use this distiller to learn about physical and chemical changes. Anyone can put food color in the water; I can take it out. Students are impressed and engaged.
This is very effective at building good relationships with parents: Let them know how pleased you are of their child! This is a very effective way to begin a school year.
My noodle jars are a great (and engaging) way to teach estimation, logic, and critical thinking.
My students do not only read about energy, they also see it. I use my oscilloscope to let them see electrical and sound energy, including their own voice.
Class sets are a great way for any child to read a novel. The number of "Ah-ha" moments I hear during the novel studies is impressive. Any reading skill can be taught with a novel study.
Each year students conduct a plant experiment that leads to or occurs during the plant science unit.
Students work cooperatively while measuring force needed to pull friction cars across various materials.
University of Florida engineering students Megan and Randy coach a student on rocket launch day.
Playing the Allowance Game during math centers.
Literacy center: students playing "You've Been Sentenced." This is another activity that gets students disappointed when it is time to stop.
Neat and well organized classroom is a great way to lead by example.

Making slime is good regardless of grade level.
Students learn of life years ago during a field trip to Fort Cooper as they make corn meal.
Field trip to the Marine Science Center.
Incentives are to a child what a bonus is to an adult.
Need a decent photograph? I go out of my way for my students and also for any staff member. I Photoshopped the exit sign - that was above the door in the background - out of the image.
